SPORTS UPDATE - Rachel reported that the Cross Country OAC Championship was held at Marietta.  Women came in 8th and men finished 9th.  NCAA Regionals will be at Otterbein on November 15th.  Women's Soccer hosted John Carroll in the OAC Championship Quarterfinal today in Bernlohr Stadium.  Capital won

3-1 and advanced to the semifinals on Thursday.  Volleyball will compete in the OAC Quarterfinal at Mt. Union tonight.  Men's Soccer will host the OAC Semifinal at 2:00 on Wednesday.  Football (5 - 3) will travel to ONU on Saturday, November 8, and play at 1:00.  For complete and up-to-dated information about all Capital Crusader varsity teams and Alumni Varsity C information go to http://www.capital.edu/.  Dawn Mamula traveled with the volleyball team to Marietta and in her absence, Fred read the memo from her and Ron St. Pierre to CU Faculty and Staff regarding the appointment of Dr. Sally Creasap as the Faculty Athletic Representative elect.  Dr. Creasap will serve as Capital's representative to the OAC and the NCAA; act as a liaison between student-athletes and their faculty members, and between faculty members and the Dept. of Athletics; certify student athletic eligibility; and advise Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athletic Honor Society. She will work closely with Professor Jane Baldwin, current Faculty Athletic Representative, who has agreed to stay on through this academic year.

CAMPUS NEWS - No Report.

SCREENING COMMITTEE - Fred reported that the members of the committee will meet on Monday, November 10, to implement the term schedule for the Selection Committee that was approved at the October meeting.

ATHLETIC AWARDS - Nomination deadline is January 15, 2009.  Fred encouraged all members to think about possible nominees and get all information into the committee by the deadline.  Rachael and Fred have some people in mind.  Information about the awards and criteria for each one is available on Capital's web site: http://www.capital.edu/.

HALL OF FAME EVENT, October 25, 2008 - Fred opened the floor for discussion about all the events of the weekend.  There was concern about the time allotted for the morning brunch.  It was suggested that it should start at least 1 ½ hours before the game which would allow 1 hour for the meal and ½ hour to get situated for the game.  All who attended the dinner were pleased with everything.  Special thanks to April Novotny, Claudia Malone, Kathy Donovan, Bill Thomas, Kyle Alexander (MC), Dawn Mamula, coaches Rachel and Fred Barends (Shelly Gaines), Dixie Jeffers (Jill Walker White), and Dave Grube.

MEETING DATES - Fred proposed the following schedule for future meetings.  All dates are on Tuesdays, all times are 7:00, all dates are in 2009.  January 6, February 3, March 3, April 14 (April 7), May 12 (May 5), June 2, July 7, August 4.  After a short discussion, it was determined that more time was needed for each member to research his/her personal calendar.  Discussion and voting deferred to December meeting.

GOLF OUTING - Jeff Parker, Men's Golf Coach, said that he would help organize the outing and research where to have the event.  After some discussion, the decision was made to table until the December meeting.

NEXT MEETING:  TUESDAY, DECEMBER 2TH, 7:00 p.m.  All are invited to attend.  Please join us in the Capital Center, 2nd floor.  Minutes are posted on the Capital Web Site:  http://www.capital.edu/  Feel free to share with a Capital Alum.

Meeting adjourned at 8:02 p.m.
