AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Junior guard Kristen Richardson was named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday after leading Capital to an 81-55 victory over Marietta on Jan. 3.
Richardson (Oxford, Ohio/Talawanda HS) tallied a game-high 22 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the field while adding seven rebounds, five assists, three steals and one block in only 20 minutes of action. She scored 16 of her 22 points in the first half along with five of her seven rebounds and four out of five assists. Her effort helped Capital post a 62-20 lead at points in the paint and a 34-2 advantage in fast break points.
Overall this season, the 5-6 junior guard in scoring (11.6 ppg) and steals (2.6 spg) while ranking second in assists (2.1 apg) and fourth in rebounding (4.2 rpg). She is third on the team in field-goal shooting at 49.4 percent while averaging the second most minutes player per game with 26.1 per contest.
Capital (7-2, 4-0 OAC) is off to its best start in conference play since the 2004-2005 season. The first-place Crusaders will play host to the second-place Purple Raiders of Mount Union College on Wednesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Capital Center.
