CRUSADER TRIO PACES CAPITAL AT REV. MIKE HOUT INVITATIONAL

COMPLETE RESULTS

COLUMBUS, Ohio - In the second meet of the season, the Capital University men and women’s indoor track teams both finished in fourth place at the Rev. Mike Hout Invitational. The women scored 74.5 points, and the men tallied 72 points.

“I’m thrilled with how we did,” Capital Head Coach Fred Barends said. “We threw and vaulted well, our sprinters did really well, and I was happy with our distance kids. We had some fantastic competition out there, and I think our kids stepped up.”

Capital’s strong team performances were highlighted by the trio of Lizzy Stanton, Jessica Starks and Cory Trump.

Senior Lizzy Stanton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Withrow HS) won the triple jump while posting an OAC “A” Qualifying distance of 34’6.75”.

“I’m excited with how we did and where we’re going this season,” said Stanton, who also earned third place in the long jump at 17 feet, 6.75 inches. “We ran against some very good competition, and we were able to hold our own. I think our group of sprinters can lead this conference and have a very successful season.”

Junior Jessica Starks (Akron, Ohio/Akron East HS) was at the forefront of the solid sprinting performances for the Crusaders.  She won the 200 Meter Dash with a CU school record time of 26.48 while also placing third in the 60 Meter Dash as she posted an OAC “A” Qualifier time of 7.96.

Sophomore Cory Trump (Hilliard, Ohio, Hillard Davidson HS) was one of the strong performers on the night for Capital men in the high jump. Trump jumped a 6’07.50” to post a CU school record, OAC “A” Qualifying and NCAA Provisional Qualifying height.  His jumped matched the height set by first place finisher Ryan Blake of Ohio State, but Trump placed second due to a tiebreaker.

“My team and I looked good tonight. We did a lot of lifting this off season, and it has paid off,” Trump said. “My goal is to keep improving every meet, but this was a good effort for this early in the season.”

On the women’s side, Capital earned a majority of its points in the field events as Mallory Molls (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick HS) earned an OAC “A” Qualifying mark with a jump of 10’00”.  Emily Goering’s (Letonia, Ohio/Letonia HS) shot put throw of 37 feet, .25 inches paced Capital and also gave her an OAC “A” qualifying performance. Homa Mohemani’s (Columbus, Ohio/Whetstone HS) toss of 44’02.50” in the weight throw earned her a fourth place finish behind three performers from Ohio University.

Kwesi Seabrook (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne HS) led the Crusader women in the 400 meter run with a time of one minute, 2.07 seconds (third place), and was another OAC “A” qualifier.

For the CU men, Scott Rife (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby HS) posted a distance of 41’07.75” in the triple jump to place second just 7.75 inches behind Christian Blauvelt of Ohio State.  His distance was also an OAC “A” Qualifying mark.

“This is a good start, but I won’t be satisfied until I make it to nationals,” Rife said. “I need to keep working toward that goal.”

The Capital runners were led by Ricky Cantrell’s (Englewood, Ohio/Northmont HS) time of 37.52 that placed him second in the 300 Meter Dash.  He also placed ninth in the 60 M Dash with an OAC “B” Qualifying time of 7.32.
