STERLING, Va. – Capital University senior guard Ryan Wood became the second Crusader this season to be recognized on the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week on Tuesday.
Wood (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central HS) averaged 22.5 points per game while hitting on 71.4 percent of his shots from the field in CU’s wins over Heidelberg and Otterbein last week. He was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field including 2-of-2 from three-point range to finish with 13 points in the victory over the Student Princes. Wood followed with 32 points in just 31 minutes of action against the rival Cardinals. He made 11-of-17 from the field including 6-of-10 from long range in the win.
The 6-3 senior All-America candidate ranks fourth in the Ohio Athletic Conference in scoring this season with 16.7 ppg. He also leads the OAC in three-point shooting percentage at 48.2 percent and is second in free throw shooting percentage at 86.8 percent. Wood averages 2.67 treys per game, which is fourth best in the conference and is the 29th Crusader to join CU’s 1,000-Point Club during Capital’s last win against Otterbein.
Capital has had two players named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week this season. Fellow senior Nate Stahl (St. Henry, Ohio/St. Henry HS) was also named as guard on Dec. 23. The D3hoops.com National Team of the Week is selected each Tuesday to recognize the top players at each position nationally.
