HAPPY NEW YEAR CAPITAL
Welcome everyone to 2009! I can’t believe how fast last semester went. The last time I blogged it was in the fall and now we are in the midst of winter! Please accept my apologies. A few highlights from last semester. I was able to pass all of my finals and on top of that I got my highest jury grade since I’ve been at Capital. For those who don’t know a jury is essentially a final exam in which you perform on your primary instrument or voice. The other great thing I can remember from last semester was at Exam Treats (essentially a huge study party with music, free food, and prizes) my girlfriend and I won a pair of free movie tickets to the Drexel Theater right across the street! So hopefully we can use them sometime in the near future.
Winter Break was a great relief. I needed the break away from the constant homework, practicing, and a normal schedule. During this time I worked in the admissions office and gave tours, caught up on my booklist, hung out with friends who I haven’t been able to see in awhile, and practice. I also was able to travel up north to see my girlfriend for a few days, in which I got a chance to stay with her family.
Enough about the past, it’s time to talk about what is going on in my life now! The new semester has started and I couldn’t be more excited about it. I really enjoy all of my classes, especially now that I actually have a few more outside of the Conservatory. I’m also taking my first Poli Sci class, and after only a few weeks of classes, I have officially decided to add a Political Science minor. Hopefully this will put me in the right direction to foresee myself going to law school.
Outside of class I have been very busy as well. I just recently attended the Ohio Music Educators Association’s annual convention here in Columbus. Here I was able to go see concerts of the best bands in the state, go to seminars about various music and education topics, visit booths with tons of very cool and free music stuff, and make great contacts for the future. If you are thinking about becoming a music education major, I highly encourage you to check this out when you get the chance. In other news, the Community Garden is finally coming together. We have about one and a half acres of land just off Capital’s campus. We are now planning designs, getting seeds, and making contacts in hopes of ground break this spring. With this we are hoping to be able to give fresh food to food pantries and other community organizations as well as using some of it in the Capital Court. When I’m not at an organization meeting or in class, I try to find some time to be with my friends and work on homework.
In closing I know I’m very busy, but I can say that I wouldn’t have it any other way. If anyone has any questions feel free to comment here or send me an email at alugar@capital.edu. I will try my best to reply to all of them in a timely fashion.
Till next time faithful readers!
