2009 Jazz and World Music Festival
Capital University's Conservatory of Music will present its annual Jazz & World Music Festival from April 12-19, 2009. This week-long event features student and faculty ensemble concerts, both on campus and in the community, and world-class jazz artists in clinics, workshops, and in concert.
NOW Music Festival
Held once a year, the NOW Music Festival features new compositions in a variety of styles, from classical music to jazz.
Christmas Festival
The Christmas Festival continues a legacy dating back to the 1928 founding of the Capital University Chapel Choir by the late Ellis E. Snyder. As the university's annual Christmas gift to the community, the festival has become one of Columbus' cherished Christmas traditions. The festival is presented each year to capacity audiences in Mees Hall on the Capital campus.
In Memory of Dr. Timothy E. Swinehart
On Feb. 3, 2006, the Conservatory of Music presented a concert to honor the memory of Dr. Timothy E. Swinehart (1950-2005), former professor of trumpet, director of bands and chair of Capital’s instrumental music department. Dr. Swinehart passed away in June 2005 following a brief battle with cancer.
The concert featured the Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Dr. Barry E. Kopetz. The Symphonic Winds presented Swinehart's favorite band works and invited guest conductors Nancy Ditmer, Richard Suddendorf and Gary Tirey to lead the band.
