CRUSADER TRACK & FIELD SETS STANDARDS AT 2009 OWU QUAD

COMPLETE RESULTS

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Capital University women’s and men’s indoor track & field teams posted 12 OAC qualifying standards as both teams placed third at the 2009 Ohio Wesleyan Quad on Friday evening.

The Crusader women had eight performances that surpassed OAC qualifying marks and each was that athlete’s best performance of this indoor season.

Junior Jessica Starks (Akron, Ohio/Akron East HS) and freshman Kwesi Seabrook (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade Julienne HS) each better a pair of times on the track for CU.  Starks won the 55 meter dash with a season-best time of 7.36, which is the third fastest time in the OAC this season.  She also placed second in the 300 meter dash at 43.24, which is the second fastest mark in the OAC.  Seabrook was just a touch better at 42.75 to win the 300 meter dash to post the best time in the conference by 0.65 seconds.  She also won the 400 meter dash with her best performance of the year at 1:01.62.

Capital had two other strong performances in the 55 meter dash as Brittany Carter (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South HS) placed second with a 7.68 while Jennifer Fekpe (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) posted a 7.68 in the prelims en route to a fourth place finish.  Both times were the best of the 2008-2009 indoor campaigns for the duo and also reached OAC ‘B’ qualifying standards.

In the field events, Emily Goerig (Letonia, Ohio/Letonia HS) was second with a throw of 39-03.00 feet in the shot put.  Her mark was an OAC automatic qualifier and the second best by an OAC competitor this season.  Corinne Salva (Fredericktown, Ohio/Fredericktown HS) tallied her best pole vault of the season as she cleared 9-05.75 feet to finish third and automatically qualify for the OAC Championship Meet.

On the men’s side, Doug Gibbons (Troy, Ohio/Troy HS) won the pole vault for the first time this season after clearing the bar at a height of 13-05.75 feet, which is an OAC ‘B’ standard.  He was followed by Sam Roberts (Grandview Heights, Ohio/Grandview Heights HS) in the high jump with a second place finish at an OAC provisional height of 6-00.00 feet.

Joe Miceli (Newark, Ohio/Newark Catholic HS) and Ricky Cantrell (Englewood, Ohio/Northmont HS) paced the Crusader men on the track.  Miceli won the 500 meter dash with an OAC ‘A’ qualifying time of 1:08.81 while Cantrell was fourth in the 55 meter dash at 6.83 seconds.
