MEN’S SOCCER PLACES THREE ON ALL-OHIO TEAM

WILMINGTON, Ohio - Three members of the Capital University men's soccer team were tabbed as All-Ohio Division III selections by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Coaches Association following voting by members of the OSCA.

Junior Steven McCarthy earned First Team honors at forward while freshman Daniel McCarthy was a Second Team selection in the midfield.  Senior John Snyder was a Third Team pick at goalkeeper.

The three selections for Capital are the second most of any school in the State of Ohio.  Capital tied with Marietta and Hiram with three picks each, which were one less than both Ohio Northern and Ohio Wesleyan.

Junior Steven McCarthy (Centerville, Ohio/Archbishop Alter HS) was tabbed as the Ohio Athletic Conference Forward of the Year this season and was a Great Lakes All-Region First Team selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.  McCarthy led the Crusaders with 15 goals and 35 points while also tying for the team lead with five assists.  He led the OAC in points per game (1.84) and goals per game (0.79) with seven of his goals coming against conference opponents.  The 2007 All-America selection and Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association Player of the Year has posted 15 goals in each of his three seasons and is Capital's all-time leader in career goals scored (45) and is the first player to reach the century mark in career points (101) with one year of eligibility still remaining.

Freshman Danny McCarthy (Centerville, Ohio/Archbishop Alter HS) was named the OAC Midfielder of the Year in 2008 and was a NSCAA Great Lakes All-Region Third Team pick.  He ranked fourth on the team with 13 points during his first collegiate season including 10 during OAC play.  His five assists tied for the team lead while two of his four goals this season came in a 3-1 win at Heidelberg that clinched the OAC Regular Season Title for the Crusaders.  McCarthy also tallied the game-winner at Baldwin-Wallace and added another goal during a dramatic 4-3 victory over Marietta during the regular season.

Senior John Snyder (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington HS) posted an 8-4-1 record as Capital's goalkeeper this fall with an undefeated 6-0-1 mark during OAC regular season play to earn All-OAC Second Team honors.  He allowed one goal or less eight times including a 1-0 shutout of Mount Union.  Overall, the 2007 OAC Goalkeeper of the Year had a 1.52 goals against average and a .793 save percentage as he ranked second in the OAC in saves per game (5.62).

The Capital men's soccer team had a total of five players earn All-OAC honors in 2008 which was second only to Ohio Northern, which won the OAC Tournament title to make just its second trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history.  The Crusaders were ranked as high as No. 8 nationally this season en route to its second consecutive OAC Regular Season Championship with a 7-1-1 record in conference play and a 13-5-1 overall mark.
