BROWN, RICHARDSON NAMED TO CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS

Capital University basketball student-athletes Casey Brown and Kristen Richardson were each named to their respective CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Teams on Thursday following voting from members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Brown was a Second Team selection while Richardson was a Third Team pick.

 

In order to be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District honors a student-athlete must be nominated by his or her Sports Information Office and hold at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA while holding at least sophomore standing.  The student-athlete must also be a starter or important reserve on his or her team and have completed one full calendar year at his or her institution.

 

Brown, a 6-5 senior post player, leads the Crusaders and ranks second in the Ohio Athletic Conference in rebounding at 8.5 rpg.  The Bishop Ready High School graduate is also third in the conference in offensive rebounds (2.95 rpg) and has started all 20 games for the Crusaders, which are ranked eighth nationally in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll.  Brown has posted the first six double-doubles of his career this season while also ranking fourth on the team in scoring at 9.4 ppg.  He is a criminology and sociology double major with a 3.46 GPA.

 

Richardson, a 5-6 junior guard, leads Capital in scoring (13.1 ppg) and steals (2.4 spg) while ranking second in assists (2.7 apg) and field goal percentage (.509).  She also ranks third in the OAC in steals, fifth in field goal percentage, ninth in scoring, 10th in assists. Richardson was tabbed as the OAC Player of the Week on Jan. 5 and is the OAC Student-Athlete of the Month for February.  She is an organizational communications major with a 3.97 GPA who has plans of pursuing a career in athletics public relations following graduation.

 

The Capital men’s and women’s basketball teams are each in first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference.  The Crusader men are 18-2 overall and 11-2 in OAC play on the strength of a perfect 10-0 mark at home.  CU, which held an 11-game winning streak at one point this season, was ranked as high as No. 5 nationally – its highest ranking in school history.  The Capital women are 14-4 overall and 11-2 on OAC action while also sporting a perfect record at home (5-0).
