INDIANAPOLIS - Senior athletics training students Tiandra Finch and Danielle Kilboy were recently awarded Postgraduate Scholarships for Careers in Athletics by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) designated for ethnic minorities and women. Each recipient will receive a $6,000 award for one-year of full-time postgraduate study at an NCAA member institution during the 2009-2010 academic year.
The Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship for Careers in Athletics programs were developed by the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics and the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee.
The NCAA awards 13 scholarships to ethnic minorities and 13 scholarships to female college graduates who will be entering their initial year of postgraduate studies. The applicant must be seeking admission or have been accepted into a sports administration or other program that will help the applicant obtain a career in intercollegiate athletics, such as athletics administrator, coach, athletic trainer or other career that provides a direct service to intercollegiate athletics.
Finch was awarded one of the Ethnic Minority Scholarships while Kilboy was given one of the Women's Enhancement Scholarships.
Finch, a graduate of Xenia High School, has worked with numerous Capital athletics teams over the past four years as a student athletics trainer including women's soccer, football, women's basketball and track & field. She also completed a rotation with the student health clinic and has volunteered with Special Olympics. Finch has been active in the CU Student Athletic Training Club and the Students for the Advancement of African American Culture Organization.
Kilboy, a graduate of Centennial High School, has worked with many Crusader athletics teams in her undergraduate career as a student athletics trainer including football, men's basketball, soccer, softball and track & field teams. She has also completed clinical rotations at Capital University's student health center and Ohio State University Medical Center as well as an internship with the Columbus Crew. Kilboy has also volunteered to work with the Special Olympics, the Columbus Marathon, and multiple AAU Basketball Tournaments. She is also the president of the CU Student Athletic Training Club.
Capital University was one of just three institutions to have multiple awardees amongst the Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship programs.
