CRUSADERS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ALL-OHIO PRE-MEET

FINAL RESULTS 

 

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A majority of the Capital University men’s and women’s track & field competitors were in action on Friday night at the Capital Center taking part in the All-Ohio Pre-Meet.  The CU men placed third while the women were fifth out of seven teams.

 

Overall 40 of the 71 Crusaders on the men’s and women’s rosters combined participated in the competition on Friday night with freshman Sam Roberts (Grandview Heights, Ohio/Grandview Heights HS) leading the way in the field events for the Capital men and sophomoreCorinne Salva (Fredericktown, Ohio/Fredericktown HS) pacing the CU women..

 

Roberts tied for second in the high jump with an OAC ‘B’ qualifying height of 6-00.00’.  He was also second in the long jump at 18-08.50’.

 

Salva won the pole vault with an OAC automatic qualifying height of 10-00.00’, which is also her best mark of the season.

 

In addition, freshman TJ Bock (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City HS) placed third in the pole vault as he cleared the bar at an OAC ‘B’ qualifying height of 12-06.00’, which was his best performance of the season thus far.

 

Freshman Keith Troyer (North Olmstead, Ohio/North Olmstead HS) and sophomore Daniel Belcher (Columbus, Ohio/Hamilton Township HS) finished second in the 300 and 400 meter dash respectively as they each recorded their best times of the season.  Troyer crossed the line with a 37.62 in the 300 while Belcher recorded a 57.13 in the 400.

 

Senior Matt Vinton (Akron, Ohio/Manchester HS) shaved nearly 0.70 seconds off his best mark in the 500 meter run this season as he finished third with a 1:17.03.

 

The freshmen duo of Conrad Booth (Dutch Harbor, Alk./Unalaska HS) and Alex Moore (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) were also third in their respective events on the night.  Booth tallied a 5:18.70 in the Mile Run while Moore had a 16:50.52 in the 5,000 meter run.

 

On the women’s side, sophomore Rachelle Paisley (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge HS) placed second in the 400 meter dash and third in the 60 meter hurdles.  She cut a full second off of her previous best time of the season as she finished with an OAC “B qualifying time of 1:04.56 in the 400.  Paisley also had a 10.80 in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles.

 

Sophomore Christina Walker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Withrow HS) also had a second place finish to her credit in the 500 meter run.  She cut over 2.50 second off her best time of the year to finish at 1:28.01.

 

Freshman Desma Triplett (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Harvest Prep HS) rounded out a group of solid CU women’s performers on the track as she was third in the 200 meter dash with her season-best time of 28.95.

 

Junior Katie Rill (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights HS) and sophomore Bethany Kirk (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest HS) each tallied third place finishes in the field events for Capital.  Rill had a season-best toss of 33-03.00’ in the shot put while Kirk recorded a 37-05.75’ in the weight throw.

 

The remainder of the Capital track & field teams will be in action on Saturday in the 2009 All-Ohio Championships at Otterbein College.
