CRUSADERS FALL IN SEASON OPENER, 8-1

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Capital University women’s tennis team dropped its season-opener to Webber International University, 8-1 on Sunday.

 

The lone win of the day for the Crusaders came in first doubles as sophomore Robin Burnette (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West HS) and senior Erica Pittmann (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) defeated Leila Marguet and Yini Esquilin by a count of 8-5.

 

From there it was all Webber as Burnette played evenly with Marguet in action at first singles, but lost in a third-set tiebreaker.

 

Freshman Kristen Foss (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) and Pitmann fell in second and third singles by identical scores of 6-1, 6-0 while freshman Meredith Wedell (Columbus, Ohio/Whetstone HS) dropped her match at fourth singles 6-3, 6-2.

 

Freshman Krissy Lahman (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick HS) and junior Audrey Craig (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview HS) took to the court for Capital at fifth and sixth singles.  Lahman lost by a count of 6-1, 6-1 while Craig fell by score of 6-0, 6-1.
