ATLANTA - Capital University senior forward
Daniele Sanna has been selected as a finalist for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division III State Farm Coaches' All-America Team on Tuesday.
Sanna is one of 42 players nationally that are currently in the running to be named to the 10-player All-America Team. The State Farm Coaches' All-America Basketball Team will be announced at the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Banquet on Thursday, March 19, at the Haworth Inn Ballroom in Holland, Mich.
Sanna, a 5-10 graduate from Pickerington North High School, returned to play after missing all of last season to lead the Crusader women to their 11th OAC Regular Season Title, ninth OAC Tournament Championship and 14th NCAA Tournament appearance. She was tabbed as the 2009 Co-Player of the Year in the Ohio Athletic Conference despite not being named OAC Player of the Week once this season due to her consistently strong performances throughout the season. The OAC Tournament Most Valuable Player reached double figures in scoring 15 times during conference play and posted a pair of double-doubles. Sanna ranked among the OAC's top-10 in scoring (9th/13.5), field-goal percentage (2nd/.522), free-throw percent (4th/.814) and steals (2nd/ 2.42) while leading the Crusaders to a 22-6 overall record.
Capital has had 15 All-America selections since 1987 including nine First Team picks. CU has also been home to nine OAC Players of the Year and a conference-record 33 All-OAC First Team selections over the past 25 seasons. The Crusaders boast the best record and winning percentage of any program in the OAC and had the most wins of any school nationally during the 1990s.
