CRUSADERS OPEN OUTDOOR SEASON WITH STRONG SHOWINGS AT MAROON INVITATIONAL

COMPLETE RESULTS 

ROANOKE, Va. - The Capital University men's and women's track & field teams each placed second in their first outdoor performances of the season on Saturday at the Maroon Invitational.  The CU women were second out of nine teams with 154 points while the Crusader men placed second out of eight teams with 156 points.

Capital was paced by 11 first place efforts on the day including double winners Emily Goerig (Letonia, Ohio/Letonia HS) and Joe Miceli (Newark, Ohio/Newark Catholic HS).  Goerig won both the shot put and discus for the Crusaders.  She had an OAC automatic qualifying toss of 12.10 meters in the shot put and a throw of 33.12 meters in the discus.  Miceli was part of the first-place 4x400 meter relay squad that posted a time of 3:28.06.  In addition, he ran a winning time of 1:57.54 in the 800 meter run, which is an OAC automatic qualifying standard.

Freshman Kwesi Seabrook (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne HS) carried her strong debut season outdoors as she broke the Capital program record in the 400 meter dash.  Her winning time was 58.90, which also automatically qualifies her for the OAC Championships.

Senior Lizzy Stanton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Withrow HS) and junior Brittany Carter (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South HS) added two more victories for the CU women.  Stanton won the triple jump with an OAC automatic qualifying jump of 10.87 meters.  Carter followed by winning the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.75.

Freshman Sarah Trick (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe HS) also had a big performance in the mid-distance with a win in the 800 meter run.  Trick posted an OAC automatic qualifying time of 2:23.36 to beat her closest competitor by over six seconds.

The Crusader men picked up two more victories in field events and another in a relay on the day.  Capital won the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 44.21 before Sam Roberts (Grandview Heights, Ohio/Grandview Heights HS) and Doug Gibbons (Troy, Ohio/Troy HS) earned solo victories.  Roberts took the high jump after clearing the bar at an OAC automatic qualifying height of 1.85 meters.  Gibbons won the pole vault by 0.62 meters with an OAC automatic qualifying mark of his own at 4.57 meters.

Capital will return to action at the Wilmington Invitational next Saturday.
