COMPLETE RESULTS
WILMINGTON, Ohio - Four performers had season-best marks including two that provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship Meet as the Capital University track & field teams posted solid individual performances at the 2009 OAC Black Invitational on Saturday at Wilmington College. The Crusader women were fourth out of five teams overall while the CU men placed fifth in the team standings.
The Capital women's 4 x 100 meter relay squad tallied a winning time of 48.25, which is the fourth best mark of the nation this season in NCAA Division III and provisionally qualifies the group for the NCAA Championships.
In addition, junior Jessica Starks (Akron, Ohio/Akron East HS) won the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.25. Her mark is an NCAA provisionally qualifying time and the best in the Ohio Athletic Conference this season.
Classmate Brittany Carter (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South HS) placed third in both the 100 and 200 meter dash. She crossed the line at 13.13 in the 100 meter dash and 26.67 in the 200 meter dash. Her mark in the 200 was her best of the season and is an OAC automatic qualifying mark. Carter's time in the 100 already automatically qualified her for the OAC meet as well.
The duo of senior Lizzy Stanton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Withrow HS) and sophomore Emily Goerig (Letonia, Ohio/Letonia HS) also each posted a pair of Top three performances. Stanton won the triple jump at a distance of 35-07.75' while placing third in the long jump with a leap of 16-07.00'. Goerig was second in the shot put at 39-01.75' and third in the discus at 106-03'.
Capital's women were also aided by a second place finish in the 400 meter dash (59.60) by freshman Kwesi Seabrook (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne HS) and a third place finish in the javelin (82-03') by Kelsey Todd (Hanoverton, Ohio/United Local HS). Also, junior Homa Moheimani (Columbus, Ohio/Whetstone HS) had her best mark of the season in the hammer throw with a toss of 122-08'
On the men's side, junior Marty Assmann (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley HS) won the javelin with the second best throw in the OAC this season at 170-02'. His mark also automatically qualified him for the OAC Championship Meet.
Sophomore Cory Trump (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) was second in the high jump with his best mark of the outdoor season. The 2009 NCAA Indoor All-American cleared the bar at a height of 6-02.00'.
Finally, classmate Scott Rife (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby HS) was third in the triple jump with a mark of 40-08.75'.
Capital returns to action next Saturday at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational beginning at 10 a.m.
