WOMEN’S TENNIS SWEPT AT JOHN CARROLL, 9-0

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Capital women’s tennis team was swept, 9-0 in its Ohio Athletic Conference dual match opener at John Carroll on Saturday.

A group of three freshmen, one sophomore, one junior and one senior won just 10 games in six singles matches for Capital (0-6, 0-1 OAC). 

Sophomore Robin Burnette (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West HS) lost at first singles by a count of 6-2, 6-0. She also teamed up with freshman Kristen Foss (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) to drop the first doubles match by a score of 8-1.  Foss lost at second singles by a 6-1, 6-1 margin.

The pair of senior Erica Pittmann (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) and freshman Taylor Gilliam (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon HS) fell at second doubles at a score of 8-2.  Gilliam also dropped her match at third singles (6-0, 6-0) while Pittman fell at fourth singles (6-1, 6-1).

Also, freshman Meredith Wedell (Columbus, Ohio/Whetstone HS) and junior Audrey Craig (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview HS) lost their singles matches by identical 6-1, 6-1 scores.  Finally, Wedell and freshman Krissy Lahman (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick HS) were swept at third doubles, 8-0.

Capital returns to action at OAC rival Ohio Northern on Tuesday in a dual match at 3:30 p.m.
