ADA, Ohio - Visiting Capital could not earn its first OAC women's tennis victory of the season as it fell to first-place Ohio Northern, 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
Robin Burnette (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West HS) played the closest singles match of the day for the Crusaders (0-7, 0-2 OAC) as she won the opening set, 6-3, before falling in the second 6-0. Unfortunately, the sophomore dropped the third-set tiebreaker, 10-5.
CU shutout in second, third and sixth singles as well as all three of its doubles matches by host ONU, which improved to 10-4 overall and 3-0 OAC play with its victory.
Senior Erica Pittman (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) and freshman Meredith Wedell (Columbus, Ohio/Whetstone HS) each took a game in both sets, but lost their matches at fourth and fifth singles respectively by scores of 6-1, 6-1.
Capital returns to action on Saturday as it plays host to its home opener against Muskingum at 1 p.m. All of CU's home matches this season will be played at Columbus School for Girls' Kirk Campus on North Cassidy Ave.
