Game One Box Score |
Game Two Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio - Homestanding Capital could not manage enough offense to stay with Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum as it lost a pair of softball games Wednesday afternoon at Clowson Field. MC took the first game, 7-3, and the second by a score of 6-0.
With the losses, the Crusaders fall to 12-8 overall and 2-2 in OAC play. The Fighting Muskies improved to 15-7 overall and remained perfect at 6-0 in conference action.
In the opener, Capital tallied seven hits and scored three runs in the fifth inning, but it was not enough to overcome a Muskingum offense that put up four unearned runs in the top of the fifth and three more in the seventh.
Senior Kaleen Keitch (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North HS) finished 2-for-3 with a run scored in the first game. Junior Rebekah Peters (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) added an RBI singles and a run scored while freshman Stephanie Peterson (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales HS) also had a base hit and a run scored for the Crusaders.
Junior Brittany Stefano (Uniontown, Ohio/Uniontown Lake HS) tallied five strikeouts and gave up just three unearned runs on nine hits while suffering a complete game loss in game one.
In the finale, Muskingum was held in check for the most part until a four-run explosion in the top of the fourth inning broke the game open en route to a 6-0 victory.
Capital was held to just two hits in the nightcap as junior Liz Dumas (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial HS) and sophomore Sarah Finkel (Mechanicsburg, Ohio/Bishop Ready HS) each singled.
Fellow sophomore Michelle Greenawalt (Houston, Pa./Chartiers Houston HS) took the loss in game two after allowing four runs on six hits over 3.2 innings pitched.
Capital will remain at home to play host to OAC rival Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday in a doubleheader at Clowson Field beginning at 1 p.m.
