Purple & White Tournament Information LOCKBOURNE, Ohio - The Capital men's golf team had some strong performances in difficult conditions during the Opening Day of the 2009 Purple & White Invitational on Friday on the Foxfire Course at Foxfire G.C. CU sits is sixth place out of nine teams following the first round.
Capital tallied a team total of 338 on Friday, which was just three shots behind fifth-place Heidelberg (335) and nine shy of fourth place Northwestern Ohio (329). Ohio Northern holds the team lead following Day One with a team score of 319. The Polar Bears are followed by Madonna (322) and Mount Vernon Nazarene (326).
Junior Daniel Zaborsky (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto HS) paced the Crusaders with an opening-round 81 to finish in a tie for 10th place out of 52 men's golfers. Ohio Northern's Tom Repciky holds the individual lead with a score of 74. Steve Smith of Madonna and Zack Koinis of Heidelberg are tied for second place with a first-round total of 76.
Fellow junior James Koon (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley HS) tied for 17th place individually for Capital with an 83 in the first round.
Freshman Cameron Baker (Lima, Ohio/Spencerville HS) and junior Andy Garcia (Miami, Fla./Palmetto HS) followed closely with scores of 86 and 88 respectively. Baker sits in a tie for 27th place while Garcia is tied for 34th position.
Freshman Stephen Moller (London, Ohio/Madison Plains HS) ended up in a tie for 46th place after carding a 96 on Friday while sophomore Jordan Flack (Chillicothe, Ohio/Huntington HS) is in 49th place with a score of 98.
Saturday's final round will begin with a shotgun start on the challenging Player's Course at 9 a.m. ET.
