CRUSADER TRACK & FIELD SHOWS UP STRONG AT MARV FRYE INVITATIONAL

WOMEN'S RESULTSMEN'S RESULTS 

DELAWARE, Ohio - Four school records were broken on Saturday as the Capital track & field teams had some solid efforts at the 2009 Marv Frye Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.  The CU women placed fourth out of 14 teams while the Crusader men were ninth out of 14 squads.

Sophomore Emily Goerig (Letonia, Ohio/Letonia HS) had a big day as she broke the school record while placing fourth in the discus.  She threw a mark of 117-01', which broke the CU record by five inches set by Brittany Luc on Apr. 5, 2008.  The throw also improved upon Goerig's previous season best by 8-5'.  Goerig also placed second in the shot put with a toss of 38-09'.

Freshman Sarah Trick (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe HS) had a school record of her own in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:18.51.  She beat out the mark set by Shelly Gaines on May 4, 2007 (2:18.60) while also posting the second best time in the Ohio Athletic Conference this season.

Classmate Kwesi Seabrook (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne HS) broke her own school record in the 400 meter dash by 1.62 seconds to take home first place honors.  Her time is the second fastest in the nation this season and an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Senior Doug Gibbons (Troy, Ohio/Troy HS) also matched his own school record in the pole vault as he cleared the bar at a height of 15-06.25'.  The jump was an improvement of 6.25 inches over his previous season-best and is the third best vault in the nation this season while also reaching an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Senior Lizzy Stanton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Withrow HS) won the long jump with an OAC automatic qualifying mark of 17-00.00'.  The jump was an improvement over her previous season best by 0.75 inches.  Stanton also placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 34-11.25'.

The women's 4x100 meter relay team won for the second week in a row as Brittany Carter, Lizzy Stanton, Kwesi Seabrook and Jessica Starks posted a time of 48.53.

Starks (Akron, Ohio/Akron East HS) followed by placing second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.32 seconds.

Carter (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South HS) was also second individually in the 200 meter dash as she made a personal improvement of 0.67 seconds to post an OAC automatic qualifying time of 26.28.

Sophomore Corinne Salva (Fredericktown, Ohio/Fredericktown HS) was fourth in the women's pole vault as she made a season-best jump of 9-04.25', which was a personal improvement of four inches.

On the men's side, senior Joe Miceli (Newark, Ohio/Newark Catholic HS) won the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58.15.

The duo of junior Marty Assmann (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley HS) and sophomore Cory Trump (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) each tallied third place finishes on the afternoon.  Assmann had a throw of 165-05' in the javelin while Trump cleared the bar in the high jump at 6-02.00'.

Capital will return to the same facility next Saturday as Ohio Wesleyan University plays host to the All-Ohio Championship Meet.
