CAPITAL SOFTBALL SWEPT BY BALDWIN-WALLACE IN OAC TWINBILL

GAME ONE BOX SCORE | GAME TWO BOX SCORE

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Capital let an early-lead get away in the opener and then was shutout in the finale of an Ohio Athletic Conference softball doubleheader with Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday at Clowson Field.  The Yellow Jackets beat the Crusaders 3-2 in game one and 5-0 in game two.

CU has now lost four straight OAC games and sits at 12-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Freshman Christa Alvich (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman HS) was the only Crusader with multiple base hits in the doubleheader as she finished 3-for-6 with a run scored.

Capital got on the board first in the third inning of the opening game as freshman Stephanie Peterson (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales HS) began a two-out rally with a single through the right side.  Junior Rebekah Peters (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) followed with a single to right field that was misplayed by the Yellow Jacket outfield.  Peterson would score all the way from first on the error for a 1-0 CU lead.

The advantage would be short lived as BW used a solo homer and another two-run blast, both with two outs, to take a 3-1 lead midway through the fourth inning.

CU got one run back in the fifth when Alvich singled up the middle to begin the frame and would score on a sacrifice fly by Peters to make it a one-run deficit heading into the seventh inning.

Capital began the seventh with a double by freshman Kacee Boham (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central HS).  However, the game-tying run would be stranded at second base as Capital lost 3-2.

Junior Brittany Stefano (Uniontown, Ohio/Uniontown Lake HS) took the loss in game one despite recording seven strikeouts.  She allowed three runs on six hits in a complete-game effort as her record fell to 11-5 on the year.

Capital was held to just three hits in the second game including two by Alvich, the eighth batter in its lineup and one from freshman Jessica Stoltz (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont HS), the seventh batter in the order, while being handed a 5-0 defeat.

Freshman Holly Wood (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville HS) gave up just two earned runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking none over 5.1 innings pitched to suffer the loss for the Crusaders.

CU is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday with OAC doubleheader at Mount Union beginning at 3:30 p.m.
