SOFTBALL SWEPT IN CRUCIAL DOUBLEHEADER AT JOHN CARROLL

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - Visiting Capital saw its hopes to advance to the Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Tournament take a hit on Friday as it was swept in a doubleheader at John Carroll.  CU lost game one, 3-0, and game two by a score of 2-0.

With the pair of losses, Capital (18-12, 6-6 OAC) had winning streaks of six games overall and four straight OAC games come to an end.  The Crusaders now sit in seventh-place just one game back of a trio of schools for the final playoff spot.  John Carroll improved to 21-7 overall and 8-4 in OAC action.

Capital was held to just two hits in the opener and four in the finale as junior Brittany Stefano (Uniontown, Ohio/Uniontown Lake HS) was the only Crusader to hit safely in both games.  Stefano was 1-for-3 in game one and 2-for-3 with a double in the second game.

Sophomore Ashley Daugherty (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Pickerington Central HS) finished 1-for-3 with a double in the opener and laid down a sacrifice bunt in the finale for the Crusaders which were out hit 17-6 overall.

Stefano pitched a total of 9.1 innings including a complete-game in the opener and the first 3.1 innings of game two.  She allowed three earned runs on nine hits in game one and surrendered two runs on seven hits in game two.  The junior struck out three batters in each game.

Freshman Holly Wood (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville HS) threw 2.2 innings of relief in the final game and did not allow a run.  She struck out two and walked one while surrendering just one base hit.

Capital will play host to #12 Ohio Northern on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. CU's lone senior Kaleen Keitch (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North HS) will be honor as part of Senior Day ceremonies between games of the twinbill.
