COMPLETE RESULTS GAMBIER, Ohio - The Capital University track & field teams prepared for next week's OAC Championship Meet with a number of great individual performances at the 2009 Kenyon Invitational on Saturday.
Capital placed fourth out of 10 teams on the women's side with 76 points, which was just 10 shy of third place Heidelberg. The CU men tallied 53 points to place eighth, just three shy of seventh place Muskingum and six behind sixth place Denison.
The top performance of the afternoon came from the Crusader women's 4x100 meter relay team, which posted the third fastest time in school history. The group of Brittany Carter, Lizzy Stanton, Kwesi Seabrook and Jessica Starks posted a time of 47.86, which is the seventh fastest in the nation this spring and 0.39 seconds better than their previous best time.
Stanton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Withrow HS) also won the long jump with an NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 18-0.25' to lead a group of four Capital women and two CU men that won their respective individual event.
Freshman Kwesi Seabrook (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne HS) took the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.65 while Doug Gibbons (Troy, Ohio/Troy HS) and Cory Trump (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) were victorious in the field events. Gibbons won the pole vault at 15-00' while Trump cleared the bar in the high jump at 6-4'.
Sophomore Emily Goerig (Letonia, Ohio/Letonia HS) was a top performer in the throws as she won the shot put and placed third in the discus. She had a throw of 12.22 meters in the shot put and 34.88 with the discus.
Capital was also aided by a second place finish in the men's high jump by Sam Roberts (Grandview Heights, Ohio/Grandview Heights HS) with a leap of 6-02' and a third place finish from senior Julie Horton (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North HS) in the 5,000 meter run by posting a time of 20:28.54.
