GAME TWO BOX SCORE COLUMBUS, Ohio - Homestanding Capital had a pair of late-inning rallies come up short as it was swept by #12 Ohio Northern by scores of 8-4 and 5-2 in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Clowson Field.
The Crusaders (18-14, 6-8 OAC) fell into seventh place in the OAC standings with its fourth straight conference loss in the past two days. Ohio Northern won its ninth consecutive game to lift its record to 25-2, 12-2 OAC.
Capital was out hit 22-12 overall on the day, but scored five of their six runs on the day in the sixth and seventh innings to keep things close.
Freshman Stephanie Peterson (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales HS) led the Crusader offense with a 2-for-6 effort in the two games combined. She added a walk, RBI and two runs scored.
Sophomore Ashley Daugherty (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Pickerington Central HS) had just one hit, but drove in a team-best two runs on the day.
Junior Liz Dumas (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial HS) reached base three times with a single and two walks for the Crusaders.
Freshman Holly Wood (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville HS) took the loss in both games as she surrendered three runs on five hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
Junior Brittany Stefano (Uniontown, Ohio/Uniontown Lake HS) came off the bench to pitch a majority of each game. She allowed 10 runs on 15 hits with three strikeouts in 9.2 innings pitched.
Sophomore Michelle Greenawalt (Houston, Pa/Chartiers Houston HS) scattered a walk and two hits as part of a scoreless inning of relief for CU.
Capital returns to action on Tuesday with another OAC home doubleheader. The Crusaders will play host to Marietta beginning at 3:30 p.m.
