CRUSADER SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH CARDINALS

WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Capital softball team closed out the regular season with a doubleheader split at Ohio Athletic Conference rival Otterbein on Saturday.  CU won the opener, 4-3, before dropping the finale, 5-3.

Capital finished the 2009 season with a 20-16 overall record and an 8-10 OAC mark.  Otterbein took its record to 18-18 overall and 7-11 in the conference.

Four Crusaders had two hits each on the afternoon for a CU offense that out hit OC, 12-11 overall.

Sophomore Ashley Daugherty (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Pickerington Central HS) led the way with a 2-for-6 day that included a double, sacrifice bunt and three RBI.

Sophomore Sarah Finkel (Mechanicsburg, Ohio/Bishop Ready HS) went 2-for-5 with a walk, run scored and a RBI while freshman Jessica Stoltz (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont HS) finished 2-for-6 with two doubles and one RBI.

Junior Liz Dumas (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial HS) was 2-for-7 with a double while sophomore Jen Reimer (Hamilton, Ohio/Edgewood HS) reached base twice and both scored and drive in a run for the Crusaders.

Junior Brittany Stefano (Uniontown, Ohio/Uniontown Lake HS) earned a complete game win the opener and took the loss while pitching 5.1 innings in game two.  Overall, She allowed four earned runs on 11 hits with five strikeouts and two walks to take her record to 18-9 on the year.

Freshman Holly Wood (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville HS) took the circle for 2/3 of an inning in game two and allowed one unearned run.
