COMPLETE MEN'S RESULTS WILMINGTON, Ohio - Led by a third place finish from Doug Gibbons in the pole vault, the Capital men's track & field team placed eighth out of 10 teams at the 2009 OAC Championships hosted by Wilmington College on Friday and Saturday.
CU scored a combined 31 points in the two days, which was eight better than ninth-place John Carroll (23) and 19 shy of seventh-place Otterbein (50).
Gibbons (Troy, Ohio/Troy HS) cleared the bar at 14-09.00' to match one other competitor, but Gibbons dropped to second place due to one missed attempt.
Fellow senior Joe Miceli (Newark, Ohio/Newark Catholic HS) was fourth in the 800 meter run for the Crusaders with a time of 1:56.19, which just over a second shy of third place.
Junior Marty Assmann (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley HS) was fifth in the javelin with a throw of 171-07', which was just five inches shy of fourth place.
The duo of freshman Sam Roberts (Grandview Heights, Ohio/Grandview Heights HS) and sophomore Cory Trump (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) went fifth and sixth respectively in the high jump for CU. Roberts had a jump of 6-02' while Trump cleared the bar at 6-00.50'.
Sophomore JD Ramage (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley HS) picked up three points for the Capital men with a sixth place result in the 400 meter hurdles after posting a time of 57.43.
Sophomore Casey Mason (Logan, Ohio/Logan HS) finished seventh in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 20.85 in the finals after posting a 16.77 in the preliminaries.
