COMPLETE WOMEN'S RESULTS WILMINGTON, Ohio - Led by OAC Field Performer of the Meet Emily Goerig, Capital matched its program record for points scored as a team to finish third out of 10 schools at the 2009 OAC Track & Field Championships hosted by Wilmington College on Friday and Saturday.
Capital matched Otterbein with 97 team points which was 11 shy of second place Baldwin-Wallace and 15 ahead of fifth-place Marietta. The finish is the second highest for the Crusaders, which also tallied 97 points in 2004 to finish in second place.
Goerig (Letonia, Ohio/Letonia HS) won the shot put and finished second in the discus to earn top honors amongst OAC field event performers. The sophomore won the shot put by 4.25 inches with a throw of 42-09.00'. Her mark was the best by any OAC performer this season and 30.75 inches better than her previous best mark this season. The shot put performance was the 16th best mark in the nation this year. She had a toss of 117-00' in the discus, which was just one inch shy of her best mark of the season.
The Capital women had four other Championship performances on the weekend including the 4x100 meter relay squad that posted a winning time of 48.08 to break the meet record set by Capital in 2007. The group of Brittany Carter, Jessica Starks, Kwesi Seabrook and Lizzy Stanton beat out the closest competition by nearly two seconds.
Freshman Kwesi Seabrook (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade Julienne HS) won the 400 meter dash on Friday with a times of 57.27 in the prelims and 57.28 in the finals. She pulled away from the pack in the finals to win by 2.11 seconds while posting the 11th best time in the nation this season.
Junior Jessica Starks (Akron, Ohio/Akron East HS) won the 200 meter dash while placing second in the 100 meter dash for the Crusader women. She had a time of 25.45 in the finals of the 200 after tallying a mark of 25.37 in the prelims. In the 100 meter dash, Starks entered the finals as the number three seed after running a 12.45 in the prelims. She then moved up to second in the finals with a mark of 12.54, which was just ahead of fellow Crusader Brittany Carter (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South HS) who ran a time of 12.71 to finish third.
Freshman Sarah Trick (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe HS) won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:17.72 to beat out the field by 0.58 seconds.
Senior Lizzy Stanton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Withrow HS) was fourth in both the triple jump and long jump. She had a jump of 34-00.00 in the triple jump and a mark of 17-02.25' in the long jump.
Sophomore Bethany Kirk (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest HS) and junior Homa Moheimani (Columbus, Ohio/Whetstone HS) each picked up one point for Capital in the field events. Kirk was eighth in the discus after a throw of 109-09' while Moheimani was eighth in the shot put following a toss of 36-09.00'.
In addition, the 4x400 meter relay team broke the school record to place fourth with a time of 3:59.95 to place fourth. The mark beat out the 2007 squad which posted a time of 4:01.30.
