MEN’S GOLF FINISHES EIGHTH AT 2009 OAC CHAMPIONSHIP

 

NEW ALBANY, Ohio - The Capital men's golf team made a 20-stroke improvement from the first round to the second to finish in eighth place out of nine teams at the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship, which concluded Friday at New Albany Country Club.

Capital leapfrogged Wilmington to finish in eighth place with a two-day total of 688.  The Crusaders were nine strokes ahead of the Quakers and within striking distance of both seventh-place Ohio Northern (672) and sixth-place Heidelberg (671).

Junior Daniel Zaborsky (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto HS) cut 13 strokes off his score from Thursday to Friday to post a 78 in the final round.  He finished in a tied for 24th place individually out of 45 golfers.

Freshman Cameron Baker (Lima, Ohio/Spencerville HS) made a three-stroke improvement to card an 85 on Friday and finish in 32nd place overall.

Junior James Koon (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley HS) and freshman Stephen Moller (London, Ohio/Madison Plains HS) were close behind with combined scores of 176 and 178 respectively.  Koon shaved four strokes off his score in the final round to finish in 35th place while Moller closed out the tournament in a tie for 37th position.

Junior Andy Garcia (Miami, Fla./Palmetto HS) rounded out the Crusaders in the field with an 85, which was a team-best 14 stroke improvement from the first round to the second while placing 42nd individually.
