AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - The Capital University softball duo of
Christa Alvich and
Sarah Finkel were rewarded for their solid play this season by being listed on the All-OAC teams, which were released on Sunday evening. Alvich was a First Team pick at Designated Player while Finkel was an honorable mention selection as an outfielder.
Alvich, a freshman from Dublin Coffman High School, played in 31 games while starting 26 for the Crusaders in her first collegiate season. Overall, she hit .259 with six doubles, one triple, 10 RBI and 13 runs scored while also posting a .297 on-base percentage and three stolen bases. However, the freshman lifted her play against OAC opponents as she led the team with a .327 average and collected 17 hits in 17 games played including six for extra bases. She posted a .352 on-base percentage in conference play while scoring five runs and driving in seven more.
Finkel, a sophomore from Mechanicsburg, Ohio, was also at her best in conference play for Capital as she was third on the team in OAC play with a .289 average. She led the team during OAC action with 12 runs scored and four stolen bases and was third with a .319 on-base percentage. The Bishop Ready High School product hit .258 overall this season with four doubles, two triples and a team-best 20 runs scored while playing in all 36 games.
Capital finished the 2009 season with a 20-16 overall record and an 8-10 mark in conference play, which was good for seventh place in the OAC standings. CU has posted 20 wins or more in all 11 seasons under the direction of Head Coach Nan Payne. The Crusaders boasted a 7-1 record in one-run games this spring while the CU pitching staff led the OAC with 198 strikeouts.
