KEITCH EARNS ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT RECOGNITION

Capital University senior softball player Kaleen Keitch was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV Second Team on Thursday following a vote conducted amongst the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.

ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams are voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within their respective region.  Region IV consists of member schools in the states of Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama.  In order to be eligible for nomination, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and hold a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.

Keitch, an early childhood education major with a 3.44 cumulative GPA, ranked second on the team this season with 14 RBI.  She was one of six Crusaders to score at least 10 runs this spring while posting a .205 batting average and a .220 on-base percentage. The Pickerington North High School product appeared in 32 of the team's 36 games this season and was second on the team with eight sacrifice bunts while leading the squad with two sacrifice flies.

Capital finished the 2009 season with a 20-16 overall record and an 8-10 mark in conference play, which was good for seventh place in the OAC standings.  CU has posted 20 wins or more in all 11 seasons under the direction of Head Coach Nan Payne.  The Crusaders boasted a 7-1 record in one-run games this spring while the CU pitching staff led the OAC with 198 strikeouts.
