SMITH EARNS ALL-OAC HONORABLE MENTION RECOGNITION

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Capital University sophomore first baseman Ian Smith earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference Honorable Mention honors on Monday following a vote conducted amongst the conference’s baseball coaches.

 

Smith (Magnolia, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic HS) led the Crusaders with a .390 batting average this season while posting a .562 slugging percentage and a .429 on-base percentage.  He also led the team with 42 RBI, 16 doubles and three home runs while also scoring 16 runs.  Smith played all but one game this season at first for CU overall and held a .373 batting average with six doubles and 15 RBI in 18 conference games.

 

Capital finished the 2009 season ninth in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings with a 12-26 overall record and a 4-14 mark in conference play.  CU suffered eight of its 26 losses by two runs or less while boasting a roster that consisted of just four seniors and three juniors.
