AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - Capital University had two student-athletes named to the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's At-Large Academic All-Conference team on Monday following a vote conducted amongst the OAC's faculty athletics representatives. Juniors
Daniel Zaborsky (men's golf) and
Max Hoff (men's tennis) were each selected to the OAC Academic All-Conference First Team.
The men's at-large winners consist of student-athletes from the sports of wrestling, golf, swimming and diving and tennis. The following is a complete list of the 2009 honorees. To be eligible for OAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least his second year of participation in the sport.
Zaborsky, a graduate of Dublin Scioto High School, holds a 3.88 cumulative GPA as an exercise science major. He led the men's golf team this season with a 78.14 stroke average including a 78.09 in the spring, which was six strokes better than the rest of the Crusaders. Zaborsky led all Capital performers at the 2009 OAC Championships with a 24th place finish individually. He also tallied a first-round score of 71 at the OAC Spring Invitational, which was the lowest single-round of any Capital player this season.
Hoff, a graduate of Upper Arlington High School, has a 3.70 GPA as an economics and political science major. He was a All-OAC Second Team selection this spring as was previously selected to the All-OAC Second Team in 2007. Hoff led the Crusaders with nine singles victories this season. All of his singles matches were played in the top flight with five of his nine wins overall coming against OAC competition. Hoff also tallied six victories at No. 1 doubles while teamed up with Filas to lead the Crusader men's tennis team to a 6-13 record, which included a 5-4 mark in conference play to put the Crusaders fifth in the OAC standings.
