I WILL - Daniel McCarthy

Daniel McCarthy, Men's Soccer

Sophomore, Biology-Pre-physical Therapy

Centerville, Ohio

"I WILL win the OAC Championship and make the NCAA Tournament"

"We're going for our third-straight OAC title, so we have a lot to live up to. We don't want other teams to catch up to us, so we're having summer practices three times a week. Incoming freshmen are also coming in so that they have some experience with college soccer.

"For me, to win the OAC again would be amazing. My brother, Steven, has a chance to win three OAC titles, which is awesome. Our goal this year is to win the OAC league and tournament title, which would automatically put us in the NCAA tournament. Coach Burgess has high goals and expectations for us. I like that, because it makes everyone else on the team have high expectations for themselves."

"I WILL become an All-American"

"I was the OAC Midfielder of the Year last year, which I am very honored to have won. I was also able to make third-team All-Region, but I'd like to make the first-team and become an All-American. Steven has been an All-American, so that has been a motivating factor for me. We're competitors, so I'm always pushing to be at his level. He's been a very positive influence for me."

"I WILL get at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA when I graduate"

"Coming into Capital, I wanted to play soccer, but I knew that not everyone can make a living off sports. That's when I decided to pick a major where I could make a nice living in that career, and physical therapy really stuck out. As I've grown up I've really liked physical therapy, and how it relates to sports.

"It's tough being a student-athlete, but it's not unbearable. I have confidence in myself that I can have a 3.5 GPA. That is the minimal requirement to get into graduate school in physical therapy. My goal is for a 3.7 GPA so that I set myself up to do better in the next few years. "

"I WILL live somewhere in Europe for at least a year"

"I've always wanted to live in Europe. My Dad's a big traveler, and when I was little we traveled a lot across the country, but I've never been to Europe. Being a soccer fan, Europe has appealed to me in that aspect. I'd just like to take in a new culture, and maybe play soccer there, but that's not a necessity. I'd like to go to England for soccer, or to Ireland because I'm Irish. Italy and Germany would also be two cool places to live."
