NEW ORLEANS - Capital University freshman sprinter Kwesi Seabrook was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team on Tuesday. Capital was one of just seven Ohio schools to place at least one student-athlete on the list.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.
Seabrook (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade Julienne HS) earned All-America status as a member of the 4x100 meter relay squad that placed third at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships after breaking the school record with a time of 46.97. CU had a school-record best relay finish of third at the NCAA Championships. Seabrook was also the OAC Champion in the 400 meter dash both indoors and outdoors while playing a part in OAC Championship performances indoors on the 4x200 relay and outdoors in the 4x100 relay.
Capital University saw all five performers in the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships reach All-American status. CU also played host to the 2009 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships and was home to the 2009 OAC Outdoor Field Performer of the Year. The Crusader women tied the school record for point scored at the 2009 OAC Outdoor Championships. Overall, Capital boasted OAC Champions in eight individual events and two relays during the 2009 indoor and outdoor seasons.
