Sorry to those of you who have been anxiously waiting for a post. Sure, most of these people are my family, but even so, I hate to keep my fans waiting. (side voice: pssst..Marta- I wouldn't necessarily call the people who read this your "fans") Well then. I guess I'll just post.
First off, Happy Halloween. I'll use some of my info from my informative speech entitled "History of Halloween" to inform you tonight.. Did You Know that Halloween is the 2nd largest commercial holiday and that Americans spend an estimated $6.9 billion on Halloween? Well now you do- and so do I thanks to my Capital education! In celebration of the holiday, we participated in the door decoration contest in our hall. After a weekend filled with construction paper, picture printouts, creativity, and a whole lotta duct tape...our masterpiece was complete. Take a look at it....can you believe that beauty got 2nd place tonight? Although I'm always quick to say that 2nd place is the 1st loser, I refuse to believe that Marta as a construction paper "Diehmon" and Kate as a construction paper angel merits a 2nd place prize. Don't worry door. You may be #2 in the contest, but you'll always be #1 in our hearts.
In other Non-Halloween happenings: Wednesday night our Intro to Mass Media class walked across the street to the Drexel Theater. We saw the new George Clooney-directed film "Goodnight, and Good Luck" about TV anchor Edward R. Murrow's battle with Senator Joe McCarthy. Good flick. I really enjoy the opportunities to see independent films at the Drexel. Bring um on, Sundance!!
In other recent activities: Saturday night I attended the Game and Taco Night sponsored by Campus Congregation. There's nothing quite like stuffing your face with tacos as you mindlessly play Apples to Apples. I'm a self-proclaimed Board Game Junkie, particularly those of the trivia variety. Give me a board, give me a dice, and let the good times roll! P.S- My dearest Jordan finally gets her picture in my blog! Thats correct- thats the same Jordan of "Friday Afternoons at Bexley Public Library" fame. You could say we're the same person.
I must bring this entry to a close. The Steelers are on Monday Night Football and I am quite into the game. (insert gasps of those Ohioans who don't like to believe I am a Steeler fan.) I'm sorry kids. It was easy to jump on the bandwagon last year. You also should understand how easily cute sport stars are able to win my heart. I'll leave you with an analogy to help you understand. I'm sorry. Troy Polamalu is to Marta in 13th grade AS Manny Ramirez is to Marta in 5th grade.
Goodnight, and Good Luck!
P.S. If any of you have any questions, comments, or would just like to say "Marta- I adore your First Year Commentary"....send me some mail! Nothing makes me happier than a full inbox. (This means YOU, kids that I met at Fall Open House this weekend!) mdiehm@capital.edu
