My First Entry! :-)

Hey everyone! My name is Amanda Johnson and I'm a First Year student here at Cap! I'm from Canal Winchester, OH and I attended Harvest Preparatory School for 13 years. Needless to say, the idea of going to college, meeting new teachers, and making new friends was scary! I wasn't sure how well I'd be able to make the transition because I graduated with a senior class of 35! Pretty small, huh? That's why I chose a college like Capital. The student-teacher ratio is perfect for me, and around campus...everyone knows each other! I also decided to stay in a residence hall because I wanted the chance to become more independent. But, I only have a 10-15 minute drive home...so when I want a home cooked meal or I need to do laundry for free...that's exactly where I head! Plus, I think my parents are just the best...in case they're reading this! :-)

My roommate is my best friend from high school. Most people say it's not a good idea to stay with someone you know, but she and I get along well! We understand when the other person needs space, study time, or quiet time..we both spend time with different groups of friends that we've made..and at the end of the day, we're there for each other! We like to shop together for dorm room stuff, watch dvds, and stay up late on nights when we don't have early classes the next morning!

I moved in on the 21st of August to participate in the Smooth Transitions program for all of Cap's minority students. Initially, I was unsure of how things would go...but by the end of the first evening, I came to the realization that it was one of the best decisions I could have made! I met a lot of really great people and I continue to spend time with them now! I also attended Freshmen orientation and met a lot of people there as well. It's a good feeling when you're on your way to a class and you get the chance to see familiar faces almost everywhere you turn!

I've had quite a bit of homework since classes started..even a test! But I'm keeping myself on a fairly disciplined schedule and making time for fun once my work is finished, so I think I'll be alright! To put it in a nutshell..things are off to a really good start! I love being in college, and can only hope that things will continue to get better from here! I'm so excited to be writing for My First Year because it means that everyone who's interested will get to come along with me for this brand new experience as well! I promise to keep you all posted! ~Amanda~
