COLUMBUS, Ohio - Offense took center stage on Saturday morning as Capital hit .393 as a team in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-20) sweep of visiting Allegheny at the 2009 Capital Volleyball Opener. Six different Crusaders had four kills or more in a match that saw CU hit .562 in the first set and .435 in the second. Senior Allison Hostetler (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton HS) paced the offense with 11 kills on just 20 attempts for a .450 hitting percentage. The middle blocker also posted a pair of blocks.
Sophomore Emily Heitmeyer (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa Glandorf HS) hit at a .389 clip with eight kills and two blocks while senior Jennifer Fekpe (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) hit .500 with seven kills and no errors in 14 attempts. Fekpe also led the Crusader front line with three blocks.
The trio of senior Sarah Gallik (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston HS), sophomore Courtney Diller (Columbus Grove, Ohio/Columbus Grove HS) and freshman Leanne Schaefer (Verona, Wis./Verona HS) each added four kills apiece in the Crusaders' winning effort. Gallik hit .667 while finishing with three service aces. Diller was perfect in four swings while adding five digs while Schaefer hit .500.
Senior setter Jenna Zumberger (DeGraff, Ohio/Fairlawn HS) dished out 36 assists to go along with three service aces and six digs while classmate Sara Doebel (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde HS) bolstered the defensive efforts with a team-best nine digs.
