BOX SCORE SPOKANE, Wash. - After a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation it took just 29 seconds into overtime for the deciding goal to be scored as the Capital women's soccer team fell to Whitman on Friday's opening day of the 2009 Whitworth Soccer Classic.
Capital (3-1-0) suffered its first loss of the season despite leading in shots (13-11) and having two attempts at the face of the goal from the foot of senior Natasha Ballard (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg HS) by Whitman keeper Courtney Keeper within 90 seconds of each other late in regulation.
The deciding goal started with a great cross by Corina Gabbert to Kristin Innes who put the ball into an open net for a 1-0 decision.
Junior Linley Vermillion (Englewood, Ohio/Northmont HS) made five saves for Capital which returns to action on Sunday against host Whitworth at 1:00 p.m. ET.
