COMPLETE RESULTS PATASKALA, Ohio - The Capital University men's golf team used improved performances throughout the weekend to finish in 14th place out of 16 teams at the ODU/OC Kisor Classic, which was played on Friday and Saturday at Cumberland Trail GC.
The Crusaders finished only five shots behind Roberts Wesleyan (943) and nine shots back of 12th place Mount Vernon Nazarene. Capital began the tournament with a first-round team score of 315 followed by a second-round score of 321. CU then finished with its best score of the tournament at 312 in the final round.
Senior Daniel Zaborsky (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto HS) led all Crusaders as he tied for 25th place out of 101 competitors. He shots a 76 in the first round and back-to-back 77s to finish with a combined score of 230.
Fellow senior Jesse Moss (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) was just seven shots back of Zaborsky in his Crusader debut. Moss carded a 237 with scores of 78, 81 and 78 to finish in a tie for 51st position.
Classmate James Koon (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley HS) was also consistent throughout to tally a 239 and finish in tie for 58th place. Koon started with a 78 followed by an 82 and a 79 in the three rounds of play.
Sophomore Cameron Baker (Lima, Ohio/Spencerville HS) tied for 70th place individually after carding scores of 83, 81 and 78 to total 242.
Fellow sophomore Stephen Moller (London, Ohio/Madison Plains HS) rounded out the top competitors on the Crusader team score with an 85th place finish and a three-round total of 254.
A group of five Capital freshmen made their collegiate debuts competing as individuals in the tournament.
Brandon Lortz (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington HS) led the group with a consistent effort of 81, 82, and 81 to total 244 and tie for 77th place.
Scott Partika (Lowellville, Ohio/Lowellville HS) and Sean Malone (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield Shawnee HS) finished with scores of 257 and 258 respectively for the Crusaders. Partika ended up in 86th place while Malone was in 87th position.
Wes Holler (Marion, Ohio/Marion Pleasant HS) and Derrick Ward (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton HS) each used consistent efforts to finish in 91st and 94th place respectively. Holler had a three-round total of 264 and Ward tallied a 270.
Capital returns to action on Tuesday at the Ohio Wesleyan Fall Invitational hosted at Oakhaven Golf Course in Delaware, Ohio.
