AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - Capital University senior forward
Steven McCarthy was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Crusaders to a win over #16 Whitworth on Sunday.
Overall, Capital had a 2-1-0 record last week with wins over Anderson and #16 Whitworth and an overtime loss to Pacific Lutheran. McCarthy (Centerville, Ohio/Archbishop Alter HS) scored seven goals to go along with two assists for 16 points in the three matches. He recorded a hat trick and one assist in the 4-2 win over #16 Whitworth. The All-American also added two goals and one assist in a 5-0 win over Anderson and scored two goals against Pacific Lutheran.
McCarthy now has eight goals and four assists for 20 points in just six matches this season for Capital. He has scored his eight goals on only 14 shots on goal this season. Overall, McCarthy has 53 career goals scored and 121 career points. He ranks ninth all-time in OAC history and first in Capital program history in career goals scored. McCarthy is also 12th in OAC and second in program history in total points.
Capital (3-3-0) returns to action this week with a non-conference match at Denison on Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m.
