You Can Get a Post-Master's Certificate in Nursing Education
There is a nationwide shortage of nursing educators. If you are an advanced nurse and are looking to broaden your career opportunities, Capital University's post-master's certificate program is for you.
It has been designed to prepare advanced nurses for teaching positions in collegiate and service settings.
The program gives you the essential knowledge and skills you need to succeed in:
- Classroom and clinical instruction
- Curriculum development
- Student evaluation
You can specialize in collegiate education, staff development, or continuing education. Learning experiences include both theory and concept development as well as praxis in teaching.
The Curriculum
Four Graduate-Level Courses (12 semester credits)
N637: Course and Curriculum Design
Provides opportunities to examine educational theories of teaching, learning and curriculum design. Includes development of personal teaching philosophy. Addresses trends and issues in nursing education

N638: Teaching/Learning Strategies and Evaluation
Provides opportunities to apply teaching and learning strategies to promote optimal learning in classroom and clinical settings. Includes methods of test construction and learner evaluation.

N639: Technology in Education
Promotes effective use of technology in diverse educational settings. Builds on pedagogical strategies, curriculum design, computer applications and nursing informatics. Prerequisites: N530 and N637.

N755 Role Development in Advanced Nursing
3 semester credits
You will get 50 hours of field experience in nursing education in association with an expert nursing faculty member.
You will explore role development, role responsibility, role issues and evaluation in nursing education in seminar discussions.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the certificate program you must have:
- A master's degree in a related health field from an NLN- or CCNE-accredited program
- Three 3-hour graduate nursing education courses plus a 3-hour graduate nursing course in role development that includes field experience
- An Ohio RN license
- A completed application (Requires the free Adobe Acrobat Reader)
- Your college transcripts
- Two professional references
Cost
The post-master's nursing in education certification program is $390 per semester credit hour.
