BOX SCORE GAMBIER, Ohio - The Capital University women's soccer team snapped a two-match losing streak and posted its third shutout win of the season in a 1-0 non-conference road victory at Kenyon on Thursday night.
The win came at an opportune time for the Crusaders, who were coming off consecutive overtime losses at the Whitworth Tournament this past weekend.
Kellie Gustin's (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro HS) goal in the 10th minute, which came from Katie Robinson's (Grove City, OH/Bishop Ready HS) first assist of the season, gave Capital a quick lead that they would not relinquish.
Despite being out shot by Kenyon 26-12 (13-5 in shots on goal), Capitals defense stayed aggressive and secured the Crusaders first road win of the season. Both teams had four corner kick opportunities. Junior Linley Vermillion (Englewood, Ohio/Northmont HS) made 13 saves in the shutout victory.
Capital has outscored their opponents 12-4 this season and have not permitted a first half goal yet this season. Vermillion improved to 2-1 as a starter, and has saved 21 of 22 shots faced this season.
The Crusaders will play in their third state in six days when they face Hanover (Indiana) Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
