OLIVET BOX SCORE GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Capital volleyball team (7-7) placed seventh out of eight teams at the DePauw Invitational after winning two of four matches on the weekend.
CU began by coming back from an 0-2 deficit to post a five-set victory (24-26, 20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 15-13) over Dominican on Friday afternoon. The Crusaders then had to return to the court immediately and lost another five-set match to Kalamazoo (25-17, 19-25, 23-25, 25-20, 7-15).
On Saturday, Capital came back to play a pair of three-set matches beginning with a lost to the host DePauw (17-25, 17-25, 19-25). CU was then placed in the seventh place match and swept Olivet, 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-21).
Overall on the weekend, the Crusader offense was led by the trio of seniors Allison Hostetler (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton HS) and Sarah Gallik (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston HS) along with sophomore Emily Heitmeyer (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf HS). Hostetler hit a team best .348 to go along with 1.38 bps while ranking second in kills (2.44 kps) and third in digs (1.75 dps). Gallik led all Crusaders with 2.50 kps as she hit .210 with 1.25 dps. Heitmeyer added 2.06 kills per set of her own.
Senior setter Jenna Zumberger (DeGraff, Ohio/Fairlawn HS) dished out 8.75 assists per set while contributing defensively with 2.38 digs per set, which was second best on the squad this past weekend.
Classmate Sara Doebel (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde HS) had 4.62 digs per set to lead a Crusader defense that will return home to play host to Denison on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Fans can follow the action with FREE live stats, audio and video at www.CapitalCrusaders.net.
