CRUSADER VOLLEYBALL GET PAST BIG RED IN 3-1 VICTORY

COLUMBUS, Ohio - After splitting their first two sets against visiting Denison, the Capital women's volleyball team took the momentum in the third set and eventually won the match, 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-14, 25-18).

Capital's surge after the second set was catapulted by senior Allison Hostetler (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton HS), who led both teams with 21 kills and a .459 hitting percentage. Hostetler was complimented in the front row by sophomore Emily Heitmeyer (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa Glandorf HS), who added 13 kills to the Crusader attack.

The complexion of the match changed in the third set, as Capital (8-7) improved their hitting percentage (Capital hit .407 percent in the third set after hitting .154 in the second set) by centering their attack in the middle of the floor. Capital, who never trailed in the third or fourth set, out hit Denison .307 to .108, and had nine team blocks compared to six for the Big Red. The Crusaders also had a sizable advantage in kills at 52-41.

Capital's defense was again led by Sarah Gallik (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston HS) and senior Sara Doebel (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde HS), who recorded 15 and 13 digs, respectively.

Freshman Leanne Schaefer (Verona, Wis./Verona HS) paced both teams with six blocks. Senior Jennifer Fekpe (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) also contributed with five blocks in the front row.

The Purple and White have now evened their home record this season at 4-4, and have won four out of their last six matches. The Crusaders look for a third straight victory Thursday night at Ohio Wesleyan at 6:30 p.m.
