BOX SCORE DELAWARE, Ohio - The visiting Capital volleyball team used a consistent offense and solid defense to post a non-conference victory at Ohio Wesleyan, 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-8, 25-16) on Thursday night. With its season-best third straight win, CU improved to 9-7 overall.
Capital hit .296 as a team including efforts of .292, .310 and .320 in the first three sets of the match as senior setter Jenna Zumberger (DeGraff, Ohio/Fairlawn HS) had control of the match throughout the night. She dished out 35 assists to go along with nine digs, seven kills, two service aces and one block.
Classmate Allison Hostetler (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton HS) led all Crusaders with 12 kills while hitting at a .440 clip and posting four blocks and six digs.
Freshman Leanne Schaefer (Verona, Wis./Verona HS) had six kills and four blocks of her own for a Crusader defense that held the Battling Bishops (0-12) to an .062 team hitting percentage on the night.
The CU defensive efforts were bolstered by a back row of senior Sara Doebel (Clyde, Ohio/Clyde HS) and sophomore Lauren Gauvreau (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS) that finished with 19 and 11 digs respectively.
Senior Jennifer Fekpe (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) hit .455 and followed with seven kills while leading all players by helping out on five of the Crusaders' 8.5 team blocks on the evening.
Sophomore Emily Heitemeyer (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf HS) added eight kills for the Crusaders which will return home to open Ohio Athletic Conference play on Monday against Wilmington.
