AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - Sophomore placekicker
Garrett Bennington garnered his first ever Ohio Athletic Conference Special Team Player of the Week award on Monday after helping the nationally-ranked Crusaders to a 37-21 win at Wilmington.
Bennington (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn HS) connected on three field goals in the first half as the then-#25 Crusaders built a 23-7 halftime lead. The sophomore also made all four PAT kicks on the evening.
Overall this season, Bennington is 6-for-8 in field goal tries including a 5-for-6 mark in attempts under 30 yards. He leads the OAC and is among the Top 10 nationally in field goals this season. Bennington is also 10-of-12 in PAT kicks this fall.
Capital (3-0, 2-0 OAC), now ranked #22 in the D3Football.com Top 25 Poll, remains on the road this week in an attempt to go 4-0 for the fourth consecutive season.
