BOX SCORE COLUMBUS, Ohio - Despite outshooting visiting Manchester 56-5, the Capital women's soccer team ended their two-overtime non-conference match on Wednesday in a 1-1 draw.
After permitting an early goal in the ninth minute by the Spartan's Kali Lauzon, junior Chelsea Caldwell (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome HS) quickly responded by scoring her first goal of the year less than a minute after the Crusaders fell behind. Caldwell found space in the middle of the field and lofted a shot over Manchester keeper Allison Cruise to tie the match at 1-1.
Capital (6-3-2) applied constant pressure on the Spartans' defense throughout the second half and both overtimes, tallying 22 shots on goal.
The Crusader defense, led by senior Sarah Hagan (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome HS) and junior Kaylee Phillips (Watkins, Ohio/Watkins Memorial HS), allowed only one total shot after the first half and four for the match (with three on goal). CU also had an 8-0 advantage on corner kicks.
Capital is now 3-3-2 in games decided by one goal or less, and move to 2-1-1 at home. The Crusaders will kickoff the OAC season at home against John Carroll Friday at 4 p.m.
