CROSS COUNTRY GAINS VALUABLE EXPERIENCE AT ALL-OHIO CHAMPIONSHIPS

COMPLETE WOMEN'S RESULTS | COMPLETE MEN'S RESULTS 

DELAWARE, Ohio - The youth of the Capital University women's and men's cross country teams had the opportunity to experience the biggest meet of their collegiate careers on Friday at the 2009 All-Ohio Cross Country Championships at Delaware Golf Club.

The Crusader women were 17th out of 21 teams while the men placed 19th of 20 schools as both CU rosters were the youngest in their respective races.

Freshman Becca Muntean (Boradman, Ohio/Boardman HS) was the top Capital finisher on the women's side.  She placed 82nd out of 141 NCAA Division III competitors with a time of 22:10.6 on the 5K course.

Classmate Emma McCorran (Mansfield, Ohio/Crestview HS) and sophomore Sarah Trick ( Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe HS) followed Muntean with 94th and 98th place finishes respectively.  McCorran recorded a time of 22:26.0 while Trick had a 22:41.6.

The trio of sophomore Hannah Childs (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights HS) as well as freshmen Casey Simmons (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek HS) and Emily Zapp (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln HS) rounded out the Crusader women in action.  Childs was a 105th place finisher with a time of 23:05.8.  Simmons crossed the line at 23:35.2 while Zapp was closely behind at 23:55.6 to place 115th and 119th respectively.

On the men's side, sophomore Alex Moore (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson HS) paced CU with an 89th place finish in a field of 137 NCAA Division III finishers.  He posted a time of 30:18.0 on the challenging 8K course.

Senior Joel Eversole (Waverly, Ohio/Waverly HS) and freshman Bret Nehrenz (Seville, Ohio/Cloverleaf HS) followed in a pack that saw them place 104th and 107th respectively.  Eversole had a time of 31:09.5 while Nehrenz tallied a 31:17.3.

The freshmen duo of Ben Herbert (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls HS) and Josh Beaudoin (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood HS) were the final two scoring runners for Capital on the afternoon.  Herbert had a time of 32:31.1 to place 123rd while Beaudoin was in 128th place after a time of 33:25.6.

The pair of freshman Zach Heyne (New Castle, Ind./Blue River Valley HS) and sophomore Brian Huff (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak HS) closed out the Crusader men in action on the day.  Heyne was in 132nd position while Huff finished 135th with times of 34:58.9 and 35:57.3 respectively.

Capital will head to the Wilmington Fall Classic on Fri., Oct. 16 as a tuneup for the 2009 OAC Championship Meet on the same course on Sat., Oct. 31.
