BOX SCORE ADA, Ohio- The Capital men's soccer team saw its seven-match winning streak come to an end with a 4-1 defeat at Ohio Northern in an OAC matchup on Tuesday.
Two Polar Bear (8-3-1, 2-0-0 OAC) goals in the first half put the Crusaders (9-4-0, 1-1-0 OAC) in an early hole that they could not overcome. After falling behind 3-0 in the 78th minute, senior Steven McCarthy (Centerville, Ohio/Archbishop Alter HS) responded barely 20 seconds later, scoring his OAC-leading 17th goal of the season.
With the goal, McCarthy is now one goal away from tying the OAC career record with 62 goals. His 140 points are also good for fourth-all time in conference history (he has 39 points on the year).
Despite outshooting Ohio Northern 11-9 in the second half, Capital was outshot for the match 23-19, including an 8-4 count on shots on goal. Junior Justin Bultman (Maineville, Ohio/King Mills HS) made eight saves in goal for the Crusaders. The Polar Bears also held a 13-3 edge in corner kicks.
