MCCARTHY MATCHES OAC GOAL RECORD IN 3-1 WIN OVER MUSKINGUM

BOX SCORE

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Senior forward Steven McCarthy's (Centerville, Ohio/Archbishop Alter HS) goal in the second half not only proved to be the game-winner in a 3-1 Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Muskingum, but also matched him for the OAC all-time lead in career goals scored.

McCarthy now has 63 career goals scored in 71 matches played.  He is tied with Michael Mudey (Otterbein) who scored his 63 goals in 81 matches played from 1996-1999.  McCarthy also has 142 career points, which is tied for second all-time in OAC history and one shy of the all-time record.

The Crusaders (10-4-0, 2-1-0 OAC) were down by a goal when the Muskies (6-7-0, 1-2-0 OAC) scored on a rebound in the 66th minute.  However, Capital cam right back with the equalizer just 67 seconds later when Ian Warmbrodt (Wadsworth, Ohio/Copley HS) punched a long pass forward from midfield to Mike Gregory (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central HS) who scored on a crossing shot just inside the left post.

CU kept on the pressure for the remainder of a match that saw Capital hold a 13-4 lead in corner kicks and a 22-11 advantage in shots.  In the 74th minute, senior Josh Thaboune (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley HS) had the ball in the Crusaders offensive third of the field and headed it through the Muskie defense and forward to McCarthy who chipped it past the keeper for his 63rd career goal scored.

Senior Jason Murray (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central HS) added an unassisted goal in the 85th minute for the Crusaders who also benefitted from five saves by goalkeeper Daren Scarberry (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City HS).

Capital returns to action at Wilmington on Wednesday in an OAC match at 7:00 p.m.
